ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Gonikoppal in collaboration with PUTHARI Farmers Producers Organization conducted a training programme on scientific ginger cultivation on 3rd March 2020. Around 40 farmers from Kodagu and neighbouring districts attended the programme. Dr. Saju George, Head KVK Gonikoppal welcomed the farmers and gave a brief introduction about the programme. The chief guest and trainer of the programme was Dr. Harish B.S, Asst. professor, College of Horticulture, Mysore.

He covered both organic and integrated management of ginger in detail. He covered in detailed through PowerPoint presentation on various aspects of Ginger cultivation like seed rhizome selection, land preparation, soil and climatic condition, identification of nutrient and disease symptoms and differentiating between them, soil testing and soil-based fertilizer application in ginger. He emphasized that the scientific ginger cultivation never spoils the soil and finally ended with saying let us celebrate science with farmers. It was a very interactive and informative session and the farmers appreciated the vast knowledge and practical insight of Dr. Harish, who is a scientist and a practicing farmer.
