
ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Gonikoppal organised World Soil Day on 5th Dec 2019 in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, SKDRDP and MCF Ltd. A total of 56 farmers and farmwomen participated in the programme. The programme was inaugurated by Shri. Krishna Chaitanya, Awardee Science Teacher, in his inaugural speech, he emphasized on importance of trees, animals, birds and micro flora in improvement of soil fertility and healthy crop production. Shri Mruthyunjaya, Deputy Manager, MCF Ltd spoke on the importance of soil testing in balanced nutrition of important plantation and Spices crops.
Agriculture Officer Smt. Levin Madappa of Dept. of Agriculture spoke on different programmes and schemes for soil fertility augmentation like green manure seeds, soil amendments and mechanisation to the gathered farmers. On the occasion soil health cards were distributed to the selected farmers. A method demonstration of mushroom cultivation by Dr. Somshekar SMS (Plant breeding) was arranged for the benefit of farmers. Also, a field visit to KVK farm was arranged for the participants where integrated farming system models was explained. The programme was coordinated by Prabhakar SMS (Horticulture) of KVK Gonikoppal.
