Training Programme on Black pepper, Coffee and Arecanut for members of Western Ghat Eco-Friendly Band from Hassan, Chikmagalur and Kodagu district


ICAR-KVK, Gonikoppal in Collaboration with Puthari Farmers Producers Company and Hassan District Planters Association (HDPA) conducted one day Seminar on holistic management practices for augmenting yield and quality in Black pepper, Coffee, Cardamom and Arecanut on 26th of October 2019. Shri. Dharmaraj, Awardee Planter & President of Western Ghats Eco-Friendly Band, Sakleshpur and Dr. Venugopal, retired Principal Scientist & Head, IISR, Appangala participated as resource persons to the technical session and interacted with the participants on cultural practices to be carried out for the month of November to December in Coffee, Black pepper, Cardamom and Arecanut. Mr. Mallikarjuna, B G, CEO, a Startup incumbent of PromagiCell Lifetech gave a talk on wet processed coffee pulp waste water management or effluent treatment with the patented product of microbial strains in easy. Cost effective and eco-friendly way.

In the morning session a field visit was arranged to the mono cropping block of Black pepper orchard of Shri. Theetamada Ramesh at Kunda village of Virajpet taluk and he explained the success behind in usage of Arka Microbial Consortium and timely technical inputs for soil and crop health management practices by the KVK Scientists to achieve highe production and productivity of black pepper var. Panniyur-1 in his garden. Later, the trainees were taken to KVK Pepper multiplication unit at Athur farm. Mr. K.A Devaiah, Farm incharge and Smt. Lakshmi Farm manager, explained the Trellis method of Arka Coorg Excel black pepper runner multiplication and its usage in raising nursery plants. The field visit was coordinated by Dr. Saju George, Prabhakra, B of KVK and Ponnanna, CEO and K P Subbiah of Puthari FPO. On the occasion an exhibition was also arranged of recent organic, in-organic fertilizers, water soluble fertilizers, Specialty fertilizers and pesticides of different companies for the benefit of farmers. About 100 invited elite planters from Kodagu, Hassan and Chickmangalore district participated in the one-day Training programme.
