ICAR-KVK Kodagu recently conducted a series of training programmes focused on the scientific cultivation of black pepper and arecanut nursery management under SCSP programme. Smt. Lakshmi R, the farm manager, welcomed participants to the ICAR-KVK farm in Athur and initiated the training session by demonstrating the propagation of pepper trellises from mother plants, the production of single-node pepper cuttings, and the maintenance of both pepper and arecanut nurseries using scientific methods. The training included a hands-on session where farmers learned to fill nursery bags with an appropriate growing mixture, arrange the bags in beds, prepare single-node cuttings, and plant them effectively.
A total of four training sessions were held on September 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th 2024, benefiting 106 farmers from the villages of Maldare, Chennayyanakote, Thithimathi, and Avaregunda. At the conclusion of each programme, participants received quality planting materials to support their nursery initiatives. All the participants actively participated in programme and showed keen interest in setting up their own nursery units.
