ICAR KVK Kodagu started a new fish pond of size 30 x 100 x 7 cuft to start a fishery unit at KVK farm at Athur. In January 2023 around 2000 no. of GIFT Tilapia variety of fishlings were left in the pond on 10-02-2023 to assess the growth and yield. Fishlings were reared in water level of 5-6 ft height. They were fed with 2mm, 3mm & 4mm size fish feed. Feed was done 3 times a day with the aerator fixed in the pond so as to maintain optimum oxygen level in the water.

Regular biomass culture was also put into the pond to optimise plankton growth. After 6 months the first harvest was done on 10-08-2023 where we could get about 85kg of fish. Tilapia fish with 300-500 g weight were harvested. We are expecting 2 more harvests. Total tank capacity (30 x 100 x 7 cuft) is 8000 no. of fishlings per batch for rearing
